HAMIS implementation APOLLO receives 5 stars!

(datum: 2011-10-21)

The Port of Rotterdam has received the highest five star TÜViT-certificate for the HaMIS information system, version 1.30.0.
Five TÜViT-stars represent a system that is of solid quality, well constructed and therefore easy to maintain and customize.

The CEO of the German certifying instituut TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH (TÜViT), Antonius Sommer, was present to hand over the certificate to Herman Hanekamp, Program manager for Information supply for the Harbor master, at the Port of Rotterdam.

Srum-project HaMIS
HaMIS (Harbor master  Management Information System) is a new information system for guiding the ship traffic in the Rotterdam harbor. Earlier this year, the new ‘harbor map’ was released, showing in realtime the ships that are in the harbor area, stretching from the Van Brienenoord bridge up until 57 kilometers off shore. In aid of the inspection of dangerous materials, the system shows where ships are that carry a dangerous load. HaMIS is built using the Agile development methodology Scrum.

The certificate is created by SIG in cooperation with TÜViT and is aimed specifically at identifying technical quality of software systems that conform to ISO 9126 and a number of derived evaluation criteria. Software of high technical quality leads to: lower cost of ownership, reduced management risks and above all ease of adaptation of software systems, so they can keep meeting new demands of usage.

HAMIS is built on top of ERDAS APOLLO Essentials - SDI. For more information on ERDAS APOLLO, click here.

SDI Interoperability and Data Management
Register Now

Summary: As leaders in the geospatial enterprise space, Intergraph and ERDAS are working together to integrate the best-of-breed data management and SDI solution. GeoMedia SDI Portal from Intergraph is a powerful, yet simple-to-use browser application enabling users to find, access and visualize geospatial data published via SDI web services and integrate data from multiple sources into a single, easily navigated map view. ERDAS APOLLO manages and delivers virtually any digital object in an enterprise faster (and with less hardware) than competing server-based products. During this webinar, we will demonstrate workflows combining GeoMedia SDI Portal and ERDAS APOLLO to manage large volumes of data and extend the utilization of that data through an SDI.

 Better wine trough satellite imagery

(datum: 2011-08-01)

Better wine through satellite imagery

PARIS - Satellites have begun to photograph French vineyards at the end of July.Wine makers can determine the quality of the harvested grapes up front with a 90% accuracy, thanks to infrared images. This determines the quality of the wine, as French and British have reported over the weekend.

The images will be analysed in the coming weeks and sent to the wine makers, says the French Wine institure ICV.

The satellites acquire images of about a 1000 parcels from 800 kilometers above the earth, in 8 seconds. The images provide information aobut the strength of the grapevines, ground water level, the weight of the grapes, the visually undetectable quality of the leaves and the presence of minerals in the soil. Diseases can also be detected. Collecting this information 'on the ground' would normally take 20 to 30 years.

The images also provide information as to which grapes are of lesser quality, to be used in table wines, and which are of premium quality, that go into the grand cru wines. "It's precision harvesting", says a winemaker from Bordeaux.
