ECW for ArcGIS Server

ECW is one of the most widely used formats for storing and displaying raster files, like aerial photographs or satellite images. And that's logicial. ECW combines a high compression rate with quality protection and fast display. This makes it also an ideal format for server environments, because of large numbers of users accessing data at the same time. Getting the image quickly is an important factor of the total viewing experience of an end user.

ECW is an ERDAS own format and is available throughout its range of serverproductcs, the ERDAS APOLLO Platform.

From ArcGIS Server 10 onwards, a license is available to get ECW inside this platform as well, taking advantage of the qualities of this format.  ECW for ArcGIS Server uses the latest ECW SDK (version 4.2), resulting in faster performance than any other format on the market today.

The latest SDK also allows for streaming of the ECW content, through the ECWP protocol. This is especially useful with low bandwith, because it only serves the extra data that is needed in the viewer at any given time, instead of complete tiles. Data is streamed as soon as the user zooms or pans the image, resulting in fast response times.

ECW for ArcGIS Server is licensed on top of your ArcGIS Server environment and is based on the number of cores used.

Is your organization using an older version of ArcGIS Server? Or do you use a different server environment? With the ECW Right to Use program, you can still serve ECW files. Click here to learn more.
